Certification
We self certify each of our cabins with our multi point building, electrical, plumbing and life safety inspection process. All of our builds reference the current version of NFPA 1192 ANSI and the NEC for all electrical work. We use Oregon licensed and insured electricians.
-
Classification
We call our builds cabins, we think it is the best word to describe our structures. But, when it come to communication with insurance companies and regulatory agencies we use the industry recognized names of THOWS (tiny homes on wheels) or RV (recreational vehicle). We reference both since our cabins are a hybrid of both, combining the long lasting quality of tiny home construction with the portability of an RV.

What are your cabins made out of?
Our cabin structures are stick framed from sustainably sourced kiln-dried FSC lumber. Each cabin is built onto an integrated steel trailer chassis that goes through a 3 step painting process. The exterior is clad in durable and low-maintenance metal roofing and wood siding. We use recycled materials, Low VOC paints and finishes on the interior of our cabins.
Are there multiple color options available?
We like our cabins to speak to the landscape that they ultimately will go into. Black is our classic and default color but we are always open to exploring a custom color that you might want.
Do your cabins need to be permitted?
Bivvi cabins are considered (THOWS) Tiny Homes on Wheels as well as RV’s (Recreational Vehicles) due to the fact that we exceed RV standards of building by using common residential construction methods and that the cabin is built onto a trailer chassis. This allows for much more lenient usage but permitting and land use is a complicated beast. Allowances vary on your site’s local jurisdiction so you should always do your due diligence first. Generally speaking, if any structure is intended to be used as a permanent habitable dwelling, it will need to be approved for such use by your local zoning & building department. We highly encourage thorough due diligence and calling your local building department to confirm your cabin’s compliance with local codes.
Are your cabins insulated?
Yes. All walls, floors, and roofs are insulated with mineral wool batt insulation and rigid foam on the floor and roof to keep the interior comfortable any time of the year.
Are the cabins rated for any temperature?
They are rated for any temperature from a construction standpoint. It is recommended that a heating or cooling system is installed if outside temperatures in your location drop below 40°F or exceed 90°F.
Do you offer a heating option?
Yes. We have an optional high efficiency Mitsubishi mini split system that can be added on to your cabin.
Do you offer a cooling option?
Yes. We have an optional high efficiency Mitsubishi mini split system that can be added on to your cabin.
Can you deliver?
Yes. Cabins can be delivered in 2 different ways: 1) We work with licensed and insured RV hauling companies to bring your cabin directly to you. The integrated trailer allows for completely seamless towing and delivery to your project location. We strongly recommend this first option, as it is the safest and most convenient for you. 2) You can always come to our factory and pick up your cabin in person. We will only allow this option if you have a vehicle that we assess as adequate to tow the cabin and you are comfortable towing trailers.
Do you offer installation services?
Depending on the scale and volume of your order, a Bivvi Camp Guide will be on-site to oversee delivery and placement of your cabins. When it comes to any site work or local construction needs, we encourage working with local contractors, we are happy to work with you and your chosen contractor on best practice for installation and placement of your cabin.
Are your cabins road-legal for transportation and delivery purposes?
Yes. At 8.5’ wide and 13-3” tall, cabins fit state and federal highway clearance requirements and do not require and special permits. As part of your cabin delivery you will be given the registration to your trailer which will need to be documented with your local DMV.
